An empowering call-to-arms descends upon the weak-minded, the undecided, the superficially concerned with the arrival of Son Of The Morning, the new album from OH, SLEEPER. On the followup to their When I Am God debut, these Texan lads obliterate any notions of the "sophomore slump" with an alarming urgency sure to excite anyone with even a cursory interest in bands like Underoath, Slipknot or Dillinger Escape Plan. Oh, Sleeper has crafted a concept album detailing the final battle between the devil (with Micah Kinard screaming in character on the title track) and God (with Kinard answering on "The Finisher," which closes the record) from start to finish. Produced by Andreas Magnusson (Black Dahlia Murder), Oh, Sleeper's Son Of The Morning is poised to turn 2009 upside down.

Musically Oh, Sleeper sounds like many other metalcore bands on the Solid State label. You get the headbanger songs and the heavy, harsh music that is expected.
But what makes this album unique is its subject matter. Much like Red's excellent Innocence and Instinct, Son of the Morning is about conflict. On Innocence and Instinct, Red focused on internal conflict. On this album, Oh, Sleeper focuses on the conflict between heaven and hell. This really shows on the first and last tracks of the album, the title track "Son of the Morning" (shows the devil's point of view) and "The Finisher." (Shows God's point of view.) The remaining 8 tracks exchange the viewpoints from different perspectives such as the perspective of angels and demons and the perspective of humans' decisions.
While the band's sound may not be anything that special, the subject matter is very unique and interesting. Fans of August Burns Red or Haste the Day might want to pick up an Oh, Sleeper album for something thought-provoking and awesome to bang your head to.

They have only released one song off of it. But the song "Son of the Morning" is amazing. It is so dark. I believe they are showing the side of the devil. Son of the Morning is another name for the devil. It says it in Isaiah 14:12. I believe this is going to be a concept album from reading the lyrics. I think it starts off as from the viewpoint of the devil then ends with God winning over the devil. The last lyrics say I'll cut off your horns. The album cover is a pentagram with two of the points (horns) cut off. This album is going to be great.
