For nearly a decade now, Koiné, The Church Band, has been touring North America sharing their modern interpretation of traditional Christian hymns.
Thanks to a dedicated grassroots following, the band has now been able to devote all their time
and energy to touring, writing, and recording. Now, nearly two years after the release of Anno Domini (a collection of Christmas hymns), Koiné is set to release their 5th studio album, The Vine, on August 1, 2011.
Perhaps the band’s most ambitious album to date, The Vine, is a bit of a musical metamorphosis for the group; experimenting with new instrumentation, more complex compositions, and for the first time, some entirely original material. “People have been asking us for years if we write our own stuff, and our answer has always been, ‘Yes, but we don't play it out much when we travel because people expect familiar hymns,” shares Brian Davison – Vocalist. “After being encouraged by many of our fans to share those songs on a larger scale, we decided to put two original songs on this next CD.”
From the encouragement to serve others in the driving indie-epic, Lord Jesus, You Have Come in Love, to the promise of a heavenly reunion in the harmonica and guitar driven dirge, I Know of a Sleep, Koiné highlights the full breadth of their musical range. Another first on The Vine is presented in showcasing the vocal and writing talents of Vocalist, Tracy Fedke, with Jesus, Refuge of the Weary. The Vine also features exciting new arrangements of church favorites like Precious Lord Take My Hand, Go My Children with My Blessing, I am Jesus’ Little Lamb, Thy Strong Word, Christ Is the World's Light, and more.
