Contemporary Christian artist Micah Tyler continues to uplift listeners with his heartfelt lyrics and infectious joy. His latest single, “God Did It,” is already making waves, especially among those who saw his energetic performance on the Winter Jam tour. Alongside that standout track, fans were treated to favorites like “Walking Free” and “I See Grace,” which have quickly become anthems of hope and redemption.
Micah first established himself with his full-length debut album, Different, which included chart-topping songs such as “Even Then,” “Never Been a Moment,” and the title track.
Reflecting on the writing process for that project, Micah shared, “Writing this record brought to the surface a lot of insecurities I've dealt with my entire life. Not feeling good enough. Psalm 139, David's praise of being uniquely created felt more like a punishment to me.”
Micah’s follow-up album, New Today, resonated with listeners through powerful singles like “New Today” and “Amen.” With heartfelt lyrics and a passion for ministry, Micah’s music continues to touch people in their most vulnerable moments, reminding them that God’s love is constant and unchanging.
I had the opportunity to meet with Micah in person before the Winter Jam stop in Reading, Pennsylvania, to discuss “God Did It” and the message behind the music.
Please tell me the personal story behind this song.
“God Did It” is an upbeat and positive song that reminds listeners of God’s power and goodness. While writing the music, I began to reflect on the question, “What has God done?” Honestly, many of my memories are tied to my songs. That’s why when you examine the lyrics of this music, you’ll notice references to “Walking Free” and “New Today.” Ultimately, God revealed the Gospel to me in a way that inspired those other songs. When I contemplate what God has done, those songs also come to mind.
I have two rules for writing songs in Christian music. Rule one: it must align with God’s Word. I want Scripture to reflect what I write—I’d prefer to stand on His promises instead of my own. Rule two: I want to write from genuine places. I want to point back and say, Here’s where God made this true for me, or Here’s where I struggled and learned to trust God.
Praise God for the profound truths in His Word, particularly in our most challenging situations—and for the fellow songwriters I’ve collaborated with who adhere to those same songwriting principles.
I have experienced personal loss and sadness. No matter what you are going through today, we are reminded that He breathed life into our lungs, He calls us His children, He raised us from the grave, and He alone deserves all the glory, honor, and praise.
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Lamentations 3:22-23 (NKJV): “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.”
Matthew 11:28 (NIV): “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”
John 10:10 (ESV): "The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."
Philippians 4:7 (NKJV): “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:11-13 (NKJV): “Not that I speak regarding need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things, I have learned to be full and hungry; both abound and suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Isaiah 40:31 (VOICE): “But those who trust the Eternal One will regain their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run--never winded, never weary. They will walk--never tired, never faint.”
Psalm 23:1 (VOICE): “The Eternal is my Shepherd; he cares for me always.”
Psalm 55:22 (NIV): “Cast your cares on the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.”
Hebrews 4:15-16 (NKJV): “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Therefore, let us come boldly to the throne of grace so that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
What is the takeaway message?
This song captures the essence of my journey over the past six years. I see it as a kind of journal entry—a reflection of the life experiences that have shaped me. At its core, the song emphasizes that God is the source of all good and deserves all praise. No matter what challenges we face, He is the one who gives us breath, calls us His children, and is worthy of all glory, honor, and praise.
I firmly believe in this image: every time there’s a parade, we need strong shoulders to lift our kids so they can see what’s happening. From our vantage point, we can’t always make sense of what’s ahead—but when we’re lifted onto God’s shoulders, we can see His mercy and grace more clearly. We can rest there, knowing He sees what we cannot.
Lyrics
You know I really tried so hard But I couldn't make the waters part Didn't matter how many times that I had said it You know I couldn't save myself It had to be someone else And there's only one who's getting all of the credit God did it
Who put the breath in my lungs Who calls us daughters and sons All praise goes to just one God did it, God did it Who raised me up from that grave Who's always making a way Let me hear the whole church say God did it, God did it
You can blame it on amazing grace I could count about a million ways That I'm not who I was, and I don't regret it And now you know I'm walking free Since heaven got a hold of me It's the moment my life changed How could I forget it God did it
To God be the glory To God be the glory To God be the glory
For all He has done New mercy each morning Rewriting my story To God be the glory For all He has done
Closing Thoughts
“God Did It” emphasizes the importance of strong faith. It expresses the hope that my daughters will also yearn for Jesus. It highlights Jesus' call for unwavering trust in God, no matter our circumstances, personal distractions, or worries. It’s not just about intellectual agreement; God desires to be the focal point of our deepest longings. Although our thoughts may change quickly, our hearts remain steadfastly devoted.
This song reminds us that we raise our hands to celebrate and surrender. We can confidently lift our hands to God, knowing His mercy is unfailing. His love is never-ending; He is our refuge and strength. His mercies are new every morning.
This song reminds me that God's mercy is renewed each day and is not based on our performance or what we can do for Him. He pours out His mercy regardless of our actions, and there's nothing we can do but trust in His son, Jesus. We can't earn heaven; we can only be saved by surrendering to Jesus and placing our hope in Him.
This song brings to mind Hebrews 11:6—without faith, it is impossible to please God. Sometimes, we tend to think we can know everything. However, this song echoes what God tells us in the Bible: that with faith, we can do anything in Christ.
This song reminds me of an important lesson: we shouldn’t wait to become better versions of ourselves before stepping out of our faith. We need to trust God fully. The song encourages us to find ways to obey Him and to offer our faith in return.
This song encourages me to reflect on whether I am compartmentalizing my life, rising above my circumstances while worshiping the Lord, or merely acknowledging that Jesus is my Lord, regardless of how I feel or what I am experiencing.
This song allows us to sincerely pray biblical and prayerful words while clinging to the truth it proclaims. The word of the Lord doesn’t return void, and this song puts God's Word in the mouths of believers, reminding them of the truth of His promises. The Lamentations 3:22–23 passage and this song inspire me to desire a deeper relationship with God and to have greater faith and security in Him.
This song reminds us of the privilege we have in knowing Him. If you follow Jesus, He lives in you and has made you His home. You can know with certainty: “For all He has done/New mercy each morning/Rewriting my story/To God be the glory/For all He has done.” Amen to that.
