Dove Award-nominated singer/songwriter
Andrew Greer returns November 5 with the second offering in his acclaimed Angel Band series. Once again highlighted by collaborations with some of the top names in Americana and Gospel music,
Angel Band: The Christmas Sessions features three original songs, along with new folk/acoustic-inspired arrangements of eight traditional selections.
Iconic GRAMMY® and Dove Award-winning recording artist Sandi Patty joins Greer for a tender rendition of the renowned classic "Ave Maria," while the legendary McCrary Sisters lend unmistakable harmonies to the Gospel-influenced "The Little Drummer Boy." Greer also teams with multi-Dove Award-winning singer/songwriter Cindy Morgan on "A Cradle in Bethlehem" and acclaimed Americana singer/songwriters Phil Madeira and Emily Deloach for a live studio recording of "The First Noel."
Produced by Chris Kimmerer, along with Greer and Johnson Roberts, Angel Band: The Christmas Sessions features three original standouts penned or co-pennd by Greer: "The Beginning of Love"; "My Troubles," which incorporates lyrical themes from "Joy To The World"; and the worshipful "My Soul Sings," a modern interpretation of The Magnificat.
"Because of who I believe Jesus is, Christmas is a beautifully somber season for me," says Greer. "I love how much of the season's musical repertoire reflects the Hope of a Redeemer through such haunting melodies and sacred verse. So for The Christmas Sessions, I wanted to compile my favorite seasonal songs, old and original, that remind me and communicate to others the everlasting good news: Christ, the Savior is born."
Later this year, Greer will perform selections from Angel Band: The Christmas Sessions during the "Angel Band Christmas Tour," presented by Food For the Hungry and Under the Radar. Hitting Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, and Nashville, Tennessee, among other cities, the tour will also feature Cindy Morgan, Ron Block (Alison Krauss & Union Station), The McCrary Sisters and acclaimed folk singer/songwriter Julie Lee on various dates.
Greer is a 2013 GMA Dove Award nominee for Instrumental Album of the Year for All Things Bright & Beautiful: Hymns for the Seasons, a collection he produced and arranged. The project has topped Neilsen Christian SoundScan's Instrumental chart for 25 weeks to date.
An acclaimed singer/songwriter and respected music journalist, Greer created the innovative "Hymns for Hunger Tour," along with singer/songwriter Cindy Morgan, which raises awareness and resources for hunger relief organizations around the country. His sophomore recording, 2012's critically-praised Angel Band: The Hymn Sessions, reached No. 2 on Amazon's Hot New Releases in Contemporary Folk chart and showcases collaborations with some of the top names in bluegrass, Gospel and Christian music.
