Born from a Haitian mother and Togolese father, Aklesso grew up listening to compas and soukousmusic, staple genres of music from his parent's native lands. Aklesso was not allowed to listen to certain rap music at a young age because of his parent's strict religious beliefs. Aklesso discovered Kanye West, an influential artist in his life, from a music downloader called Limewire; and discovered Miami jook music, an influential subgenre of music from South Florida, from Myspace. All these things helped influence Aklesso's music style. January 24th, 2007, Aklesso's Father moved to Africa following a divorce. This event caused Aklesso to start writing poetry and freestyle rap to work out his frustration. Aklesso in his early years never thought of making music a career because it was something never accepted in that culture.
He attended Dade Christian School, for High School, and received a scholarship to the Naval Academy Preparatory School. Aklesso then transferred to Liberty University to run track and field, and it was there that he started doing music seriously after the death of his best friend Darius Dixon. It was at Liberty University where he met promoter Jonathan Slye. Aklesso would navigate the music scene in Lynchburg Va, from performing at everything from open mics and church gatherings, to paint and foam parties for free. This would land him in front of recording artist B.O.B., and producer at the time, Gawvi, December 2016. The two people were an influential artist that Aklesso listened to growing up. After his performance, Gawvi approached Aklesso and praised him for his electrifying performance and then asked to collaborate with him in the future. They have been working together ever since.
Aklesso released an EP titled, Dead God in 2017. He explains the concept behind the EP as follows: "We all have things in our lives that we worship and place above God. Whether it is our quest for success like we see in Hercules or lust like we see in Aphrodite. We all have gods in our lives that must die so the one true God who did die for us can reign in our lives."
Aklesso released his debut album titled, My Life is a Beautiful Mess on Friday, December 4, 2020. Singles released prior to the project were "Ayy3x," "Wodie," "Popular," and "Worst Year."
