Worship bands Elevation Worship and Maverick City Music have come together and released "Jireh" from their collaborative album, Old Church Basement. The powerhouse worship collectives recorded the song just days after Maverick City's Chandler Moore had lost everything he owned in an apartment fire, making the song's message of God being enough for us an even more powerful testimony and song of worship.
In Hebrew, the name Jehovah Jireh means "the Lord is Provider." The moment I heard "Jireh," God drew me to Apostle Paul's closing words to the believers at the city of Philippi and I haven't been able to get away from that passage since. The lyrics of "Jireh" and the aforementioned passage of Philippians 4 remind us we can be content in every circumstance because, in God, we have His presence, His power, and His provision.
You are Jireh, You are enough/Jireh, You are enough/And I will be content in every circumstance/You are Jireh, You are enough
His presence
I don't wanna forget how I feel right now/On the mountaintop/I can see so clear what it's all about
So stay by my side when the sun goes down/Don't wanna forget how I feel right now
Philippians 4:6-8 teaches us to pray about our worries and needs. It encourages us that when we do pray, we'll experience God's peace that surpasses anything we can understand. Verse 9 says if we continue putting into practice the ways of Christ "the God of peace will be with you."
God's presence with us is the primary source of comfort and confidence for us in any situation in life. And, with His presence comes His peace. Isn't that what we all long for anyway? To know and feel that God is with us and that we're not walking through whatever we're facing alone? To experience His peace amidst the trials, burdens, and worries of life?
Even before God might intervene to help us in any tangible way, there's a stability and joy we experience in simply knowing that God is in the trenches with us.
His power
It's more than you ask, think, or imagine/According to His power working in us/It's more than enough
I feel like you can't be in church--or Christian sporting events--for more than 30 seconds without seeing Philippians 4:13 quoted everywhere: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." I have the verse on one of my keychains. Rarely, though, do we talk about the context in which the Apostle Paul wrote those words.
In Philippians 4:10-14, he admits that his circumstances haven't always been easy. He experienced having plenty and little, having a full stomach and an empty one. Paul learned the secret to living with contentment in any and every situation: he could do anything through Christ who gives Him strength.
You may be in a season of joy and abundance, in a season of grief and trial, or somewhere in between. Wherever you are, He readily provides His strength to sustain you. He has promised us that His grace is sufficient for us and His strength is made perfect in our weakness--no matter the season, task, or situation. (2 Corinthians 12:7-10)
His provision
If He dresses the lilies with beauty and splendor/How much more will He clothe you?/How much more will He clothe you?/If He Best Replica Watches over every sparrow/How much more does He love you?/How much more does He love you?
Paul's friends in Philippi had sent him a monetary gift to help him when he was in need. Paul closes his letter to them by thanking them for their gift. He pens these words in Philippians 4:19 (NLT): "And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus."
This verse in Philippians always reminds me of Matthew 6:25-34, where He teaches us that we don't have to worry about our natural needs. Musician Naomi Raine from Maverick City Music sings phrases from this passage in what is, in my opinion, the most anointed and powerful moment of "Jireh."
Because God loves and values us, we can trust Him to take care of us and provide for our needs. There's not a single physical or emotional need you have that God doesn't see, care about, and have provision for. Not one.
I know it's easy to give into the accusation that God doesn't see and care and that He won't help, especially when you're waiting on God to answer. I'm in a situation like that right now--and it's tough--but I've been finding truth and hope in these promises of God's Word and I know He can do the same in your heart.
His way and timing of meeting your needs may look different than what you expect--depending on His wisdom for your life. But, no matter what, He is a generous Father and a faithful provider. No matter what, He is good and we can trust Him.
Final Word
God is enough for you--today and every day. May you experience His presence, peace, power, and provision in just the way He knows you need it. May you be reminded that if He can even watch over lilies and sparrows, how much more does He love and care for you.
