Singer/songwriter Melanie Penn is releasing her first single from her More Alive project on Friday, March 6 and is premiering the lyric video 24-hours early today on NewReleaseToday.
"I'm not really known for writing worship songs," explains Melanie, "and this song, in particular, scared me a little. It feels great to think about sharing in God's glory, but what about sharing in God's sufferings? At first it seems like something to avoid! But then I consider my friends and loved ones and how when they suffer, don't I suffer? When my friend has a broken heart, doesn't my heart break too? The deeper the friendship, the deeper the shared suffering. If God is my friend then what breaks God's heart breaks mine–illness, oppression, evil in the world, loneliness, isolation. To be impacted by the world's brokenness is to share in Christ's sufferings, and experience friendship with God. That is a depth of friendship worth singing about.”
"I Want To Know You" is the first single from Melanie's More Alive project that will release monthly over the course of the next 14 months.
Melanie Penn writes pop songs at the crossroads of faith and culture. A singer/songwriter now based in Manhattan, Penn was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Falls Church, Va.
