The Books Of Mortals
by Ted Dekker And Tosca Lee | Genre: Fiction
Release Date: June 2012

Centuries have passed since civilization's brush with apocalypse. The world's greatest threats have all been silenced. There is no anger, no hatred, no war. There is only perfect peace...and fear. A terrible secret was closely guarded for centuries: every single soul walking the earth, though in appearance totally normal, is actually dead, long ago genetically stripped of true humanity.

Nine years have gone by since an unlikely hero named Rom Sebastian first discovered a secret and consumed an ancient potion of blood to bring himself back to life in Forbidden. Surviving against impossible odds, Rom has gathered a secret faction of followers who have also taken the blood-the first Mortals in a world that is dead.

But The Order has raised an elite army to hunt and crush the living. Division and betrayal threaten to destroy the Mortals from within. The final surviving hope for humanity teeters on the brink of annihilation and no one knows the path to survival.

On the heels of Forbidden comes Mortal, the second novel in The Books of Mortals saga penned by Ted Dekker and Tosca Lee. Set in a terrifying, medieval future, where grim pageantry masks death, this tale of dark desires and staggering stakes peels back the layers of the heart for all who dare take the journey.

The Books of Mortals are three novels, each of which stands on its own, yet all are seamlessly woven into one epic thriller.

Want to learn about Love? Then dive deep! | Posted April 23, 2013
Mortal, the second installment of Ted Dekker and Tosca Lee’s trilogy,The Books of Mortals, seamlessly transforms you back into the world they have created.  Personally I heard Dekker’s voice more than Lee’s in this one, or so I think. I suppose one can never really tell.  There were just a lot of parts that seemed very “male,” who knows though, Tosca could just be that good.  The thing about the series that is different than The Circle Trilogy, besides the co-author factor is that you don’t go back and forth between two worlds.  Nine years from where we left off we are thrown desperately into the themes of love, loyalty, and mortality.  Dekker’s novels always contain a very deep “lesson/theme” that I don’t think everyone “gets,” but if you do you REALLY get it.  If I explain what I mean more in depth I’ll give the basis of the story away, and you really should read it!  I mean, if you don’t close this book without a new, deeper understanding of what love really is, I don’t know what to tell you.  The ending is insane; I completely did not see it coming and cannot wait to read the finalSovereign next spring! Dive Deep! ;)

Hey, You Liked Red Right? Well Here's The Exact Same Story Only Set In The World Of Forbidden | Posted November 23, 2012
Forbidden introduced us to an intriguing world and had a great story filled with interesting characters.  While it felt like Ted took some elements from Black, I still enjoyed the book.  Now we have the second part of the story and everything I enjoyed before isen't in this book.  The plot is basically a beat-for-beat retelling of Red just changing location names and character names to suit the world.  The characters basically fall into the same mindsets the characters from Red had.  It's still a well written book but I feel like Ted is falling back to throwing out the same story that made him popular.  I hope the next book in the series stays away from basically recounting the entire plot of White and gives us its own unique conclusion.
