A Candid Look Into the Life of Mary Beth Chapman
Posted January 26, 2011
By Christin,
Before reading Choosing To SEE, I had expected this book to be about grief. But it is actually a story of a life lived in pursuit of Christ and all the ups and downs that such a life entails. As someone who has struggled with depression most of my life, I greatly appreciated Mary Beth's honesty, and even humor, about her own battle with depression. The adoption stories of Mary Beth and Steven's three little girls from China were priceless! Especially the crazy adventure to adopt Stevey Joy before China shut down due to the SARS epidemic! I was amazed at Mary Beth's ability to write in such candid detail of Maria's last day this side of Heaven, and of the overwhelming grief in the days and weeks that followed. It will surely break your heart. But the Chapman family is not a family without hope...and this book will not leave you hopeless either. Choosing to SEE has made the Chapman family even more dear to me than before. The only part of this book that let me down just a little was the last few chapters. They were made up of blogs primarily, most of which I'd already read. Even still, I recommended Choosing To SEE to my sister (who loved it) and I would recommend it to you as well.
