Deception
by Adriana Lima | Genre: Fiction
Release Date: May 1998

Spin-off of Deadline and Dominion

Ollie Chandler is a brilliant and quick-witted homicide detective with exceptional deductive skills and street smarts. He's a police department legend for his off-beat methods that solve crimes and coax confessions. But he's a risk taker and a rule-bender who drives his procedure-conscious superiors crazy. If not for his success rate, he'd have been squeezed out of the detective division years ago.

When a Portland State University professor is found murdered in his home, Ollie is called in. Some strange indications on the professor's body suggest a peculiar means of death. Tests confirm something even more bizarre than Ollie suspected. A motive of revenge seems likely. But revenge for what? The murder mystery gets more complex the deeper Ollie probes.

Review:
Deception follows the phenomenal Dominion, however, it does not top it. It does however rank number two in Randy Alcorn's fiction books. It is also the second best mystery I have ever read. The story is told from the perspective of Oliver this time, making it the only mystery told in the first person. That fact is the only thing better than Dominion. The main issue addressed by the story, or course, is deception. The facts of the mystery are well hidden up until the end and the characters are well developed. Unlike most dramatic mysteries, the the final scene where the good guy and the bad guy face off is actually interesting and unpredictable. Though it may take you a few days...or weeks...to finish it, it will be worth the wait. 5 stars

A really good ending to the Ollie Chandler series, at least as far as I know, this was the concluding book to the series, if you could call it that. I really enjoyed this book and just couldn't put it down as soon as I started. Half wat through the book I stopped guessing who it was, because each time I had guessed, I was wrong. I was really impressed by that aspect of Deception. Another thing that I was impressed by were the moments when Chandler as unconscious and that all evidence pointed to him after those moments.
