Sense and Sensibility was the first of Austen's novels to be published, under the pseudonym "A Lady".

Edward Ferrars (one of Fanny's borthers)
Colonel Brandon (close friend of Sir John Middleton)
John Willoughby (a nephew of a neighbor of the Middleton's)
Lucy Steele (distant relative of Mrs. Jennings) Miss. Steel was engaged to Edward Ferrars for a very long time
Robert Ferrars (Fanny and Edward's younger brother)

Brief summery- After Mr. Dashwood dies he leaves his whole estate to his son John. Mr. Dashwood asked is son before he died to take care of Mrs. Dashwood and the girls by giving them some of his money. But John's selfish wife Fanny talks him out of it. Saying that they can't possibly afford to give up their money.

Fanny's bother Edward comes to visit his sister at Norland (the Dashwood estate). While there, he and Elinor begin to like each other. But Elinor won't let herself become to attached or to hopeful. Even though she loves him.

Mrs. Dashwood and her daughters have to move from Norland because it no longer belongs to them. So they begin to look for a new home. That's when Sir John Middleton offers his small cottage at Barton. Mrs. Dashwood and her daughters end up moving to the cottage.
While at Barton for the first time the Dashwoods meet Lady Middleton, Mrs. Jennings, and Colonel Brandon.

One day while out of a walk Marianne gets caught in the rain and sprains her ankle. But luckily a man sees her and stops to help. The man's name is John Willoughby. Who Marianne falls in love with, but he is later found out to be the father of an illegitimate child. Now we find Marianne heartbroken.

Not long after the Dashwoods come to Barton Anne and Lucy Steele, cousins of Lady Middleton, come to stay at Barton Park. Lucy and Elinor begin to spend a lot of time together. Later Elinor finds out that Lucy has for a long time been engaged to Edward Ferrars.. This greatly upsets Elinor, because she thought that Edward loved her.
This leaves Elinor heartbroken.

But the story doesn't end with heartache and sorrow.
Marianne ends up marrying Colonel Brandon even though she doesn't really love him. It's later that she realizes that she truly does loves him and that he makes her truly happy.

And as for Elinor, she ends up marrying Edward. After his mother finds out that he was engaged to Lucy she becomes very angry with him and makes it so he can have no money. Then Lucy calls off the engagement and ends up marrying Robert the younger brother because now he has the money. This makes it possible for Edward and Elinor to get married. Edward and his mother end up resolving their differences and she gives him ten thousand pounds to live on.

This book was boring. I had a very hard time getting into it...and the movie is even worse. I am the kind that loves romance but that...for some reason it did not catch my eye in the slightest
