First and foremost, Iím a writer. Iíve written three books: The Revolutionary Paul Revere, which tells the story of the early American hero famous for his midnight ride but largely unknown for so much else he accomplished, Bad Trip, which takes issue with American drug policy, and Size Matters, which considers how the size of government impacts the pursuit of happiness. You can find more about them here (info on Revere coming soon). My shorter writing has been featured in, among other publications, The American Spectator, Reason, and WorldNetDaily.com, where I served as commentary editor from 1999 to 2001.
Iíve been an editor in some capacity for a decade now. For a few years at the turn of the millennium I edited a libertarian satire webzine called RealMensch. Following that for several years I edited a religious zine called RazorMouth. Iím currently the vice president of editorial and acquisitions for the nonfiction division at Thomas Nelson. Iíve been with the company since 2003. Iíve held several positions there since beginning: senior editor, associate publisher, and publisher, in addition to my current role. Between 2001 and 2003 I held a hybrid position between WorldNetDaily and Thomas Nelson. The two companies formed a publishing partnership with a focus on political books. I was the editor attached to the project.
Iím also a voracious reader. I read widely in history, biography, politics, economics, theology, and fiction. Favorite authors include Cormac McCarthy, T.C. Boyle, Bill Buckley, Virginia Postrel, F.A. Hayek, Thomas Sowell, N.T. Wright, C.S. Lewis, Mario Vargas Llosa, Walker Percy, Wilhelm Roepke, William J. Bennett, R. Emmett Tyrrell Jr., H.L. Mencken, Flanery OíConnor, and Frank Schaeffer.
Aside from writing, editing, and reading, my favorite pastimes include praying, running, hiking, cigar-smoking, beer-drinking, cooking, and listening to jazz, rock, or bluegrassóin whatever order comes most natural at the moment. Iím married to the amazing Meg H. Miller and have two wonderful children, Fionn and Felicity.
You can reach me via Twitter, Facebook, or email. I donít always have time to respond, but I do read all correspondence.
