Find the courage to be wild and free Posted May 15, 2025 By KevinDavis_NRT, Staff Reviewer
What You Need to Know In the decades since the group formed at the University of Mobile in 1998, Big Daddy Weave has become one of the most beloved bands in Christian music, well known for populating radio with such memorable songs as the award-winning "Redeemed," which spent 11 weeks at No. 1 as well as "The Lion and the Lamb," "Overwhelmed," "My Story,'' "God is in This Story" and many others. Let It Begin has been one of my most anticipated albums of 2025. It features songs with inspirational, story-style lyrics that will immediately inspire you to worship and sing along with these ultra-talented musicians. The relatable and transparent words of these songs perfectly depict our daily walks as believers, wrapped around catchy melodies.
All the tracks display the musical and lyrical excellence and intentionality of Big Daddy Weave. These are catchy melodies and biblically based lyrics that reflect unashamed faith. Every song on this stellar collection showcases the band’s heart for what they do, leading people in worship of our Savior and reminding us that “Heaven Changes Everything.” In the vein of “All Things New,” these songs serve as a reminder that one day, God will wipe away every tear. There will be no more sorrow as followers of Jesus who have put all their hope in Christ know that eternity in Heaven awaits us when we leave this fallen world and remember, “God is in This Story.”
What it Sounds Like This band can write a hooky and truth-filled chorus, and the single “Let It Begin” is catchy, relevant, and worshipful, much like their previous hit songs “Alive” and “My Story.” The chorus is very stirring and convicting: “There′s a river that delivers me to freedom/And the current of His mercy brings restoration/If my wounds could tell one story/Let it be a testimony/That You don't leave me where I′ve been/If this is healing, let it begin.”
“My Hope is Jesus” features Mike Weaver’s tender and powerful vocals, taking listeners on an emotional and spiritual journey with every lyric sung about faith in our God and living out the commandment to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength.” If you’ve always been a fan of Big Daddy Weave, this album will resonate with you.
Spiritual Highlights “My Hope is Jesus” reminds us we can face our daily battles with more remarkable courage and strength because we trust that, regardless of the outcome, as promised in Romans 8:28, "God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose." Being a Christian means walking by faith, not by sight. Faith encourages us to rely on the unseen. Each day, we all walk by faith. The beauty of this journey is that it teaches us to trust God more entirely with our lives.
I love singing the song back to Jesus and openly expressing that I need no one but Him. You can pray along: “Now and for all my days/One thing will never change/No matter what comes my way/My hope is Jesus.”
Other highlights include “I’ve Just Seen Too Much,” “Stranger No More,” “Heaven Changes Everything,” “Free,” “God is in this Story,” and “Good Grief.” Poignant song “I’ve Just Seen Too Much” is a stirring song which sings, “If you ask me why I trust Him when it feels like everything has come undone, all I can tell you is I've just seen too much…of His kindness, of His goodness, of His mercy that always follows me.” Like previous Big Daddy Weave albums, these songs are all filled with spiritual truth. The bridge expresses, 'You are my comfort and my healer' in the standout “Good Grief.” There's a relief that comes from good grief.
Best Song I'm engaged by the emotional vocals and the deep, prayerful lyrics throughout the album. “Let it Begin” is an upbeat and catchy song in the vein of “Alive,” which is among my favorite Big Daddy Weave songs. There are several stand-out songs, and “Stranger No More” is an uplifting offering of praise to the only one who has the power to save. It is a very singable song. In many ways, the central message of this album can be found in “Free” and “Lions and Eagles,” which are songs that celebrate the freedom to be found in Christ. We can all live out the lyrics, “Can you find the courage to believe you are meant to be wild and free?”
Final Word Let It Begin is an excellent collection of confessional and authentic expressions of faith, yet another "best" album from Big Daddy Weave. Once again, the songs are poignant and powerful, and in recording the new tunes, the band brings a more seasoned level of musicianship, intensity, and intentionality. This album challenges me to think about how I’m living out my faith. Every song released by Big Daddy Weave entirely focuses me as a listener on joining in praise, worship, and adoration. These are very passionate songs sung with vocal sincerity and reverence, with biblically based lyrics.
These songs will undoubtedly connect with listeners and showcase the multi-talented band’s trademark balance of vocal tenderness and lyrical intensity, beautiful and stirring musical arrangements, and, above all, songs with a sense of hope and inspiration.
This has been one of my most anticipated albums of 2025, and I’m pleased to say it exceeds my expectations. This incredible band has once again released their newest best album. It boasts a warm musical style that will immediately soothe your soul and inspire you to worship and sing along with these exceptionally talented musicians.
