Worship Leader Laura Hackett Park and the worship team at the International House of Prayer (IHOP) in Kansas City, Missouri have breathed several new worship anthems into the Church from their annual Onething Live conferences. "You Won't Relent," "You Satisfy My Soul," "New Jerusalem," "Baptize My Heart," "Arms Wide Open" and "Pour My Love on You" consistently bless me as a worshiper. I was excited to hear Laura Hackett Park's sophomore album Love Will Have Its Day, available everywhere October 21.
What's especially cool about this album is how Laura invites listeners into her life by sharing what's on her heart. She dwells on social issues, lays out spiritual truths and worships God all at the same time. "Changes Everything" beautifully sets the tone for this masterpiece with her signature introspective style. This can be gorgeous background music, but don't miss out on what Laura has to say in each song: "Do Your eyes see me now, are You smiling, are You proud? I believe You are, and this changes everything."
The idea of finding our peace, joy and identity in Christ is beautifully captured in "The Love Inside." The song compels me to worship and profess my own appreciation for the pure love of Jesus that "fills all of heaven with its light." As Laura profoundly sings, "when we know Jesus sees us here now, this changes everything, the love inside of You, so pure, so bright, it fills all of Heaven with its light." The song is a gorgeous profession of Laura's sincere desire to serve Jesus.
Settle in and really allow yourself to experience these songs, especially the next song "Lift Up Your Head." It is the source of the album title as Laura proclaims "Love will have its day." The song connects to Psalm 121:1-2 (NKJV): "I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth." The song has a psalmist style message: "Breathe, darling, breathe. It's not yet time for you to leave. Love will have its day. Lift up your head.Turn your face to the rising sun while you wait, while you wait for redemption to come." The song is such a joyful and hopeful prayer.
You can't help but pray and sing along with Laura. "Beautiful Heart," "Song of Destiny" and "He Shall Reign" are all in the same style declaring personal responses to biblical truths in each song.
"King Jesus" is a standout track sung with amazing passion and is Laura's tribute to the work of International Justice Mission and other organizations focused on the goal of ending human slavery. "Anger" includes Laura's autobiographical reflection about dealing with her own anger in the lyrics.
"I Feel His Love" features another worshipful refrain and Laura's strong vocal delivery. When Laura passionately sings the song, I hear in her voice a prayer of gratitude and commitment to lift God's Name high and give her gifts back to Him. Laura once again isn't performing the song; she is lifting the worshipful and heartfelt words back to our Savior.
"Got Something Going On" is a fun and upbeat song about her relationship with her husband and fellow IHOP-KC worship leader, Jonas Park. The album closes with the worshipful songs "Brilliant Light" and "Cover Me." They feature Laura's vocal sincerity and prayerful offerings of comfort in the lyrics.
Every song will have you hanging on each word that Laura tenderly sings. Her vocals will soothe your soul, and the vertical lyrics will direct your attention to our King, Jesus. This is a completely worshipful album. There are several personal songs that melt my heart, including "The Love Inside," "Beautiful Heart," "He Shall Reign," "I Feel His Love," "Brilliant Light" and "Cover Me." Laura has blessed listeners by writing such piercing, relevant and moving songs. If you are looking for an entire album of songs like Invisible Empires by Sara Groves, look no further than Laura Hackett Park.
She writes and sings songs with an amazing passion and with unashamed praise and gratitude to our Savior that is very inspiring, with reminders to "lift up your head" to the Lord of Lords. The eternal Love of Jesus is beautifully expressed in these compelling songs that seep into your heart, soul and mind. This album soothes, moves and challenges listeners. Love Will Have its Day is a profound listening experience.
