"I was reflecting on a series of amazing experiences that I had recently encountered while I was flying back from LA," recalls Carla. "The lyrics just started pouring out of me and as soon as we had service again, I texted Steve and told him I had lyrics, but I needed music. As he always does, Steve composed a beautiful melody. I guess I should call this song the terminal tune because I sat it on the shelf for nearly a decade until I ran into Kirk at another airport. We chatted about the idea of singing together and that's when I realized that Love to Gain was about to come to life."
GRAMMY-award winning producer Tom Hemby describes the song as "a song with a marvelous message. 'Love to Gain' revealed itself musically. I was so thrilled by the time we got Carla's vocal on there as the song just kind of exploded. I hope a lot of people are blessed by it."
"I love Carla's duet performance with Kirk Sullivan on our song 'Love to Gain,'" says Steve Dorff. "The production sounds great and the vocals are beautiful."
Carla and Kirk premiered the single on NBC's Today in Nashville on Tuesday, February 26. Following that appearance, they shared the new music with the Ryan Seacrest Foundation's, Seacrest Studio at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.
"My cousin Taylor, who was five at the time, was diagnosed with leukemia and organizations like these provide the foundation for families that are going through what is sure to be the hardest part of their lives. They make the experience as comfortable as possible. Fortunately, Taylor is now 15 years old. We couldn't be more grateful for organizations like the Ryan Seacrest Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, St. Jude and others that step in when families need them most."
