On the heels of Bethel Music recording and releasing an entire set of worship in the middle of California's Redwood Forest, Chris Tomlin has announced a historic underwater concert this summer.
Construction on the underwater auditorium, being built exclusively for Tomlin's event, is now underway overseas and will be transported to the coast of Florida in the coming months.
The innovative design will allow for 1,500 guests to safely experience the concert inside a half dome submerged 100 meters in the Atlantic Ocean. Engineers have designed feeding stations to be attached 180 degrees around the dome that they say will attract sea life and some of the ocean's top predators to enhance the guest experience.
The entire evening is not just a gimmick. The purpose, says Chris Tomlin, is to bring people to a greater sense of awe and worship before God.
"I believe we need a drastic change of environment to shock us out of the complacency and stagnation that has dominated our hearts lately," explains Tomlin. "So we hope to talk about real-life emotions as we worship God. We'll be singing about, and focusing on, Scripture that gives God back control, overcoming fear, and dealing with the harsh realities of death. I can't think of a better environment to do that in than being submerged in the ocean, worshiping together, while staring directly into the eyes of a great white shark."
NewReleaseToday received an exclusive preview of the structure's blueprints which includes an innovative, never-before-seen, transparent LED screen lining the entire top of the dome that will simulate cracks and leaks mid-way through the show.
"This will be an experience that should bring us all to our knees," closed Tomlin.
