The 2015 Grammy awards recognized the best in music for the previous year and early in the evening handed out statuettes to some up and coming names in the Christian music scene.
Christian rapper Lecrae took home the award for Best Contemporary Christian Performance for his collaborative single "Messengers" featuring for KING & COUNTRY. The song recently spent several weeks atop the Hot AC Christian charts. This second career Grammy for Lecrae comes as the artist comes off of one of his most successful years ever. After touring on the Winter Jam Tour Spectacular for 2014, Lecrae released his most recent album Anomaly to critical and commercial acclaim, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, cementing him as one of the most renowned artists in Christian Hip Hop.
Topping off the win for their collaboration with Lecrae, brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone also took home the second big award of the night for Christian artists. Beating out industry veterans like Natalie Grant and MercyMe, for KING & COUNTRY won the award for Best Contemporary Christian Album for their sophomore release,
Run Wild, Live Free, Love Strong. The album debuted to No. 2 on the Billboard Christian albums chart in September.
Like Lecrae, the brothers have also had a banner year. The lead single from Run Wild, Live Free, Love Strong, "Fix My Eyes" became their first single to hit No. 1 on the Hot AC Christian charts. They launched their first headlining tour to sold out crowds in the fall, and returned to the Winter Jam Tour Spectacular for 2015. Their new single, "Shoulders" has been steadily climbing several Christian charts and a music video is in the works.
