Over the weekend, former NEEDTOBREATHE member Bo Rinehart opened up with NewsChannel 5 in Nashville, Tennessee, about his story and how he is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. On September 9, Bo launched his new solo music project called Coy Roy, which he's using as a platform to open up about his journey.
"It's a very taboo thing to talk about," Bo said to NewsChannel 5. "I'm a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, and it started when I was six. Some elements of my story are for me to know. When I was 6 years old, I went into protection mode. I had developed an ability to black things out and try to escape it however I could. Medicating through alcohol or other addictions was the result of childhood sexual abuse."
Bo Rinehart's debut single "I'm Right Here" was released under his artist name, Coy Roy, and he performed the song live for the first time at The Button Ball for Davis House Child Advocacy Center in Franklin, Tennessee. Bo is now doing work as a spokesperson for Davis House.
"This thing that happened that I can't change doesn't have to be the end of the story," Bo continued. "There's hope, and there's a better future. Hopefully, we can bring attention to it so it happens a lot less and we can make a difference."
