On June 2, 2020, NewReleaseToday is joining the entire music industry in participating in #TheShowMustBePaused, a movement meant to intentionally disrupt the week in response to the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmad Arbery and countless other Black citizens.
Our hearts are broken for communities all over this country gripped by anger, fear and frustration at a justice system they continually see time and time again fail them.
We will not make excuses. We will not analyze facts from the sidelines and the safety of our homes. We will not sit silently.
What we will do is pause in solidarity with our Black brothers and sisters as they mourn for a life free from racism. As families discuss awful truths that should no longer be brought up at the dinner table and in living rooms. As painful memories of hurtful times at the hands and mouths of others continually remind them that racism is alive and well in this country.
To our Black friends and artist community: you are loved. You are loved by God and by so many that you may not see today. But we are here. Standing with you. Praying with you. Pleading with you. Please take the time for you and your mental health. Spend time wrestling with God. Bring Him your pain, your anger, your sorrow. Allow it to spill over to your circles if needed and we pray that they are met with grace, compassion, and healing. Allow yourself time to grieve and give yourself permission to feel every emotion.
Today, we turn off our ad engine and turn on what little voice we have in this corner of the world. May you find a glimpse of peace as you see many others joined hand in hand–website to website–in saying, "enough is enough."
