Christian Rock at radio has had a hard season as of late. Air1 Radio Network switched formats to Worship on January 1st, the Z-Rock Radio Revolution syndicated rock program ended last year after a 19-year run and Billboard recently removed its Christian Rock radio chart.
Rock, as they always say, is far from dead and there are a number of new initiatives that are quickly taking shape, like the recently announced Grizzly Awards, celebrating the best in Christian rock and hardcore, and Rockfest Radio, a new 1-hour syndicated program that begins this weekend!
Hosted by Joseph Rojas, frontman of Seventh Day Slumber, President of Nashville Label Group and former producer of the popular ZJam radio program, Rockfest Radio will be a 1-hour syndicated program highlighting Christian rock and alternative while taking calls from real listeners and providing Biblical hope into their situations.
"Not everybody listens to Contemporary Christian music," says Joseph. "Some people like their music with a little bit more edge and a little harder, turned up to eleven. That's what we're doing. We've seen this genre left by the wayside and people who are getting their hope from Christian rock music have kind of been left out. We want to make sure those people are getting reached."
Rockfest Radio has posted a GoFundMe page to help cover initial expenses like computer and mic equipment so the show can be recorded while Jospeh and his band is on tour. Jospeh and his wife are donating their at home studio to ongoing production.
Rockfest Radio will be available for free to stations to air weekly through their partnership with NRT Syndication. The network also syndicates Worship with Andy Chrisman (of 4HIM), Movement Radio with the Transform DJs, RapZilla Live With Chris Chicago, Christian Music Rewind alongside segments from NewReleaseToday that focus on Urban News and what's new in Christian music each week.
