Newsboys drummer and Australian representative Duncan Phillips has undergone successful knee surgery,
Phillips reported via social media yesterday.
The surgery was to repair a severely torn meniscus, which is the cartilage that provides structural integrity to the knee when it undergoes tension and torsion. Phillips
reported the injury and the diagnosis on July 1 via various online outlets.
It’s not entirely clear how Phillips’ injury occurred, although Newsboys fans familiar with the drummer are acquainted with his high-energy, very physical style of performance during shows.
Phillips’ surgery took place at Vanderbilt Hospital in the Nashville area, and from all reports, he was well-pleased.
“Knee [operation] was a total success and headed home now!” he posted on Facebook. “Thanks for all the love and prayers! Recovery will be swift! Still a bit groggy as you can tell from this pic! Great staff at Vanderbilt Bone and Joint!”
Recovery would indeed need to be swift, as Phillips is scheduled to play with Newsboys at two shows next week, starting with a concert at Elitch Gardens in Denver on Saturday, followed by a July 31 Creation Festival Northwest appearance.
