Rapper KJ-52 is in the record books, as he and a team of emcees
received official word from Guinness this week that their 12-hour, two-minute freestyle session is the longest in recorded history.
“It’s official!” KJ posted on social media today. “Thanks to everyone that made it possible, and all glory to God!”
The artist posted a portion of an official letter from Guinness on his Facebook page today. Addressed to “Mr. Jonah Sorrentino”—KJ-52’s real name—the letter declared that he had “successfully achieved a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for Longest Freestyle Rap (team).”
The letter congratulated Sorrentino and his team for their achievement, noting, “You are officially amazing.” Guinness went on to say that a certificate of achievement is being created and will be sent to the team.
The marathon improvisational rap session—captured in portions by KJ on his YouTube channel—took place at Crossover Church in KJ’s hometown of Tampa, Fla. in January, and featured fellow rappers Sicily, Jerrell Johnson, Isaac Knox, Heir Jordan and Goldinchild.
To rap for that long, the artists relied on a number of creative exercises and fan participation that prompted lyrical themes.
