Family Force 5 is prepping for their relaunch after former lead single, Solomon Olds,
left in September of last year to pursue other musical interests. The band quickly reshuffled, moving former drummer
Jacob Olds to frontman and welcoming new drummer, Teddy Boldt (AKA "Hollywood") to the lineup.
The band barely missed a beat, continuing to make their home in the studio and on the road. Now, with more than 20 million YouTube views of the band's official music videos and having its music featured on ESPN, Family Force 5 is getting ready for the release of its fourth studio album with a focus on great songs and a truly entertaining live experience.
The band recently announced a new label home at Fervent Records, part of the Word Label Group, and will be releasing their new studio album (title TBA) in August 2014 that will feature 15 brand new songs and is co-produced by Seth Mosley and previous collaborator Riley Friesen. The iTunes’ pre-order campaign kicks off on May 27. The first single from that album, "Let It Be Love," was written by the band and CCM super-writer/composer/producer Seth Mosley who has most recently worked with Francesca Battistelli, Audio Adrenaline, Stellar Kart, Everfound, Jason Crabb and Newsboys, just to name a few.
“Our forthcoming album is a reflection on the liberating, ethereal experience of connecting with the holy,” said Derek Mount in explaining the title of the album. “It is an encounter that transcends boundaries, and that eclipses our frailty and our doubts. The man-made constraints of time disappear, becoming irrelevant. It is union. It is perfection. It is eternal. As 2 Peter 2:8 advises, ‘...Do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.’ In this moment, time stands still.
"From the beginning, Family Force 5 has been called to stretch boundaries, to step outside the box from the way faith based artists have traditionally sounded and looked," says Jacob Olds, setting the stage for the new single, "Let It Be Love." "We've received a lot of criticism for the last eight and a half years. Our team has always struggled with the right way to respond."
Derek Mount (Chapstique) continues, "The night before one of our final studio sessions, I watched a live Switchfoot video. I was particularly struck by a moment in which Jon Foreman spoke to the crowd. He mentioned that there were protestors outside the venue, and he said something that I thought was magical to the audience. He encouraged them to remember that there is something deeper than disagreement, and there is beauty in connection. In common ground. He also said we have one card to play, and that card is love. This is the sentiment that served as the inspiration for our song, 'Let It Be Love,' as we wanted to emphasize the incredible, life-giving power of grace. We feel that anytime we face the question, 'what it is the right response?' the answer is love."
You can hear Jacob and Derek talk about the song below and hear the new direction fans will hear when the single hits radio in May. Also, watch for a new video for "BZRK" coming May 23! It's a good month to be a FF5 fan!
Song Lyrics
I've never seen a soul set free through an argument
I've never seen a hurt get healed in a protest
But I've seen sinners turned to saints because of grace
It's love, love that lights the way
Love that lights the way
CHORUS
Let it be our arms wide open Bigger than the words we've spoken
Let it be our heart for the broken
If we're gonna light, light, light the way to You
Let it be love, let it be love, yeah
Nothing but love, nothing but love, yeah
Let it be love, let it be love, yeah
It's love that lights the way
It's not about the stand we take, but the grace we give
It's not about the name we make, but the life we live
Heard about a King who stepped down, took my place
True Love gave His life away
It's love that lights the way
CHORUS
Stronger than every fear
Comfort for all the tears
It's where the war is won
And it has overcome
Louder than the loudest sound
Deeper than the deepest doubt
We'll watch the walls fall down
We'll watch the walls fall down
CHORUS
It's love that lights the way
