Attendees of Family Force 5's special Christmas concert Friday night in Nashville, Tenn. were given an unexpected gift when former lead singer Soul Glow Activatur joined the band on stage for their final song, a rousing rendition of "Chainsaw."
The band, who has often done full Christmas Pageant tours in the past, chose this year to hold just one special Christmas concert in Nashville. The band spent the night playing a mix of old songs, Christmas songs and new material. In the three years since Solomon "Soul Glow Activatur" Olds departed the group he founded with his brothers, he's been on stage with Jacob "Crouton" Olds (now serving as lead singer) and Joshua "Fatty" Olds less than a handful of times. However, at the prompting of his brothers and an enthusiastic crowd, Soul Glow picked up the mic again for the night's final song. Rhett Walker (lead singer of recently disbanded Rhett Walker Band) also took the stage with Family Force 5. You can see a fan video of the performance below.
The event was truly a family affair, as the band was also joined on stage by Soul Glow's son Cash. Earlier in the evening, Crouton invited the Olds parents on stage to have the crowd wish them a happy 45th anniversary.
In addition to the surprise Soul Glow appearance, fans were treated to first-ever performances of a few new songs from Family Force 5's upcoming 2017 release. You can watch a video of a song tentatively titled "Tiger Eyes" on NewReleaseToday's instagram here.
Although Soul Glow has stepped out of the spotlight and allowed his brothers to carry the band alongside Derek "Chapstique" Mount, Nathan "Nadaddy" Currin and Teddy "Hollywood" Boldt, he is still involved with Family Force 5's music in a writing and producing capacity. Soul Glow has shared a few studio updates on the upcoming album from his instagram page.
