After a recent missions trip to India, Elena Chavez wanted to do more than just write a song about her experience. The NRT Indie Artist Watch singer-songwriter traveled from village to village, leading worship and teaching local Christians about disciple making.
"I brought my guitar and led praise songs everywhere we went, but I was blown away when the local believers would respond with their own praise and worship," Chavez told NRT. "Most times these praise teams involved many different types of percussion and one person leading the congregation with words. I fell in love with the sound."
The result of her musical and spiritual experiences is the new song, "Draw Them to the Water," which deploys the themes and elements picked up from India--including an actual voice recording Chavez had of one of the local pastors' daughters singing a Telugu worship song.
Reflecting on the meaning of the new song, Chavez summarized, "During our travels we got sick from the heat and food, played games with village kids, spoke before congregations in the heat and fell exhausted into bed at the end of each day, but we were determined that everything we did in our exhaustion was done in a way that reflected Christ in a contagious way to draw people of all cultures to the living water."
Chavez is offering "Draw Them to the Water" for free on NewReleaseToday July 25 through Aug. 8 (CLICK HERE TO GET IT NOW), and then she'll be selling it digitally.
