In preparation for his April 7 return to
American Idol, singer Colton Dixon has made a big change to his look that has caught even his most diehard fans by surprise.
Dixon, whose wedding was recently the subject of a
People Magazine feature, is once again gracing the cover of the famed pop culture publication, with the headline: "Why I Shaved My Head."
The cover shows Dixon without his trademark fauxhawk hairstyle--or any hair for that matter--and the six-page spread inside the magazine chronicles the artist's brave journey with more than a dozen high-resolution, play-by-play photos.
"I realized my hair was causing an unnecessary distraction," Dixon told the magazine. "My wife actually came up with the idea of shaving my hair. I may or may not have cried for a couple of days once the deed was done, but now I've happily joined the ranks of the bald and beautiful.
"I just hope it doesn't strip me of my powers," Dixon joked.
All Samson jokes aside, Dixon saw the hairstyle change as an opportunity to give back. Despite his best efforts, however, Locks of Love was unable to use the blond, feathery mane--so Dixon decided to auction it off for charity.
Newsboys drummer Duncan Phillips came away with the prize and joyfully sported his new "Colton Wig" in a recent Instagram post.
