Music has a unique way of connecting people, offering encouragement, starting meaningful conversations, and expressing truths that words alone sometimes cannot capture. Whether a song strengthens someone’s faith, speaks into a difficult season, provides motivation, or is simply too good to keep to ourselves, sharing it can become an act of community and ministry. In this compilation, several NRT staff members highlight songs they have shared with friends, family, and social media followers, explaining how each selection connected with them and why they wanted others to hear it.

Skillet - "Scream"

As an author who has written some books, I think my perspective on sharing with others is more "all of the above" than anything else. Skillet is my favorite active band, and "Scream" is a banger of a new song from them. I've shared it with those around me for multiple reasons. I share it to convey that it's okay to get frustrated with life and that we all can relate. I’m sharing this to let people know that my favorite band is releasing new music. I share it to connect with people on a human level, since bonding over a shared interest in art is a great way to connect. Whether it's for evangelism, enjoyment, or greater connection, I think all these reasons work together to make sharing music worthwhile for me. And it helps when Skillet's new song is just so catchy.

Seph Schlueter - "Life With You"

“Life With You” is a celebration of God's love despite our brokenness. I immediately shared this song with my young adult daughters, who live out of the area and are each dating a Christian young man.

This song challenges me to consider what I'm allowing to rule my heart rather than giving myself completely to God. Sometimes Christians know Bible facts but don't live out the truth that the Holy Spirit lives within us. The beauty of walking by faith, not by sight, is that we can trust God. Have faith and let God “work all things together for good.” 

The Bible tells us that with faith, we can do anything in Christ. His love is never-ending, and He is our refuge and our strength. As believers, we are being called to heaven. He is real, He is near, and He is just a breath away. He is the author of our lives and knows what's best for us—much better than we do. That's a reason to sing this empowering anthem at the top of our lungs in gratefulness to Him. If you are looking for a firm foundation in your life, make these lyrics your personal prayer: “And now I sing it on and on/And it’s the sweetest sound of all/Told me the lies I heard were wrong/I never wanna go back.”

Stephen McWhirter - "Come Jesus Come"

I don’t share that many songs with my friends or followers, but when I do, it is because either the song speaks to my soul or it's of the utmost musical quality (great instrumentals, vocals, pitch, and tempo). I must feel very strongly led to share a song. The most recent example of this that comes to mind is "Come Jesus Come" by Christian artist Stephen McWhirter.

This song grabbed me the very first time I heard it (not many do that), and I was pulled in from the first verse. With all the craziness in the world today (wars, rumors of war, outbreaks of disease, new diseases, earthquakes, and other natural disasters), I feel like this song embodies what most Christians today are feeling. This song is not only a longing for His return but is a prayer to end all suffering. We are all longing for Jesus to return to end all wars, heal all sickness and disease, and to establish His Kingdom on a renewed earth. It is the listener's answer, Jesus, which I love.

In terms of the quality and production of this song, I say it is a 10 out of 10. I love the tempo, the clarity of the vocals, and the emotion and guttural singing from one of its original authors, Stephen McWhirter.

This is one song that is permanently on my playlist, and I have purchased several versions of it. I have shared it a few times and will continue to do so.

Christian Workout Hits Group - "Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)"

I shared the album Christian Workout Hits (2012+2013) by the Christian Workout Hits Group with friends on social media. It features cover bands and musicians singing Christian songs many of us remember hearing on the radio, but at a very high beats-per-minute. It is great for cardio, running, walking, driving, or even getting out of a slump. 

One of my favorite songs blends my love of traditional hymns (from the non-denominational church I grew up in, which separated from the Baptist church but kept its traditions) with contemporary songs (sung in several non-denominational churches I have attended since my college days). 

The song is "Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) (Workout Mix + 135 beats per minute (BPM))." This song reminds us that God gives grace to all who believe and offers mercy and strength in times of weakness. The song references specific Biblical verses, including Ephesians 2:8-9 and 2 Corinthians 12:9. 

This very jazzed-up version of "Amazing Grace" lets us hear the song in a fresh way, and I recommend it to everyone. And please turn up the volume.
