In this book, 15 year old Laura gets a teaching job 20 miles away from home, and endures the distance from her family only to help pay Mary's way through college.
Laura does get fun breaks during school holidays, and spends part of them with Almanzo, and they finally fall in love.
Laura may not be quite a full grown woman yet, but she does a lot of maturing in this book.
