This is the second book in the Little House on the Prairie series that covers the Ingalls family (but it came out after Farmer Boy, so it can be considered the 2nd or 3rd book in the series, that's up for debate).
In this book, the Ingalls and their dog Jack move away from the big woods of Wisconsin and their family to the prairie in a covered wagon, trading the cozy woods for tall grass and wide open spaces.
This book is when they make and live in an actual little house on a prairie, and when they meet their great friend Mr. Edwards.
