What was God thinking? We live in a complex and intricate world in a vast and awe-inspiring cosmos. It's difficult to look around and not think No one could think all of this up! or Nothing makes sense in this world! or even more troubling, This universe is so big that something as small as I am must be insignificant. Vaughan Roberts believes that these conclusions are tragically inaccurate. We lose sight of our Creator and his great purpose behind our creation when we indulge such feelings of meaninglessness. In God's Big Design he explores the first chapters of the Bible to consider five big questions:
* What is our Creator like?
* Why did God make human beings?
* What's so special about the earth?
* What does God think about sex and marriage?
* Is work a punishment or a gift from God? Reading God's Big Design will remind you that despite the immensity of God's creation, he has plans for each of us, and we can each find our place and meaning in him.

The first few chapters of Genesis tend not to get considered that much outside the context of the never ending creation/evolution debate. That is unfortunate because that isn’t all that’s there. In God’s Big Design, Vaughan Roberts discusses what we can learn about God and his plans for humanity, the earth, sex & marriage and work from the first few chapters of Genesis. He does an excellent job at applying the scriptures to contemporary issues related to these areas. While it doesn’t go in to the depth someone doing serious ethics or theology study would want, it is an ideal introduction for new Christians or those trying to think through a biblical perspective for the first time. The book includes discussion questions so could be used in a small group setting.
