Diane E. Tatum grew up in St. Louis County, MO. She started writing her own stories in elementary school. Her first novel, Gold Earrings, began as a short story written for her high school writing class. Diane holds 2 university degrees: BS-Business Administration and MA-Teaching Language Arts. Between degrees she stayed home with her two sons and started freelance writing for Sunday School curriculum and magazines. She finished writing Gold Earrings during this time.
Diane taught middle school Language Arts from 1998-2009 and continues part-time teaching under grants at her previous middle school. She "retired" in 2009 at the urging of her husband so she could write the books she had been starting and saving on their computer. Gold Earrings was published in 2011. She has completed her second novel manuscript, A Time to Choose, and has the majority of the writing finished on her third, Colonial Dream.
