We are Brian and Christa Yak. We are husband and wife. We are For the Fatherless.
We met in Nashville, TN, in 2008 while studying music at Belmont University and singing together in a jazz vocal ensemble. As we continued to write and collaborate musically, our relationship grew—and we fell in love. We were married in 2013, and For the Fatherless was born.
We both know the feeling of growing up fatherless. Christa lost her father—a worship leader and musician—to a brain tumor when she was seven years old. She grew up with an amazing single mother and a beautiful little sister. Brian’s dad abandoned his family due to drug and alcohol addiction, and though Brian never knew his biological father, he was adopted by his mother’s husband and raised in a loving home.
There is healing in sharing our stories. Each one is different, but together they tell the story of perfect love—the love of a Father who sent His only Son to die a death He didn’t deserve, and who raised Him to life again. This perfect love has made a way for us to be adopted and to be called sons and daughters of God.
“Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” – John 17:23
Jesus prayed those words for all who would ever believe in Him before He went to the cross. His heart burned for us to know the love of His Father as He knew it Himself. We lead worship and share our stories and original songs to continue seeking an answer to Jesus’ prayer: that somehow, in His grace, He would reveal the fullness of His love to each one of us—and that we would know the joy of 1 John 3:1, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”
We are fatherless no more—and it’s the reason we sing.
“Redeem us, restore us, we’re desperate now for the revival of sons and of daughters returning their lives to the Father.” – God of Generations
