Rising contemporary Christian artist Katy Nichole is an artist to watch. She is on a mission to spread the love of Jesus through her music. Katy has not only gone viral, now reaching well over 150 million people with the chorus to her debut single “In Jesus Name (God of Possible),” she has also reached the second-highest position on the iTunes overall Top Songs Chart while remaining No. 1 on the iTunes Christian & Gospel Chart.
The song was created from words in 21-year-old Katy’s prayer journal that were written during a global health crisis and in response to her own story of suffering, hope, and healing.
Sharing her unwavering belief in God’s ability to heal and the power of prayer, Katy’s debut single is connecting with audiences globally who are looking for healing and restoration in a weary and anxious world.
In just a few short months following her post of the “In Jesus Name (God of Possible)” chorus on TikTok, the song has been heard more than 80 million times. I had the chance to speak with Katy about her hit song. Replica IWC Watches
Please tell me the personal story behind this song.
This song was originally called “God of Possible.” The night before I was to go into the writers’ room to create this song, I had a panic attack. I was dealing with a lot of anxiety at the time.
I felt God leading me to the piano and I wrote out a little chorus that I brought with me to the writers’ room that God had given me that calmed me down during my panic attack. We went in and the part that I initially meant to be the bridge ended up being the song’s chorus, “I pray for your healing/That circumstances will change/I pray that the fear inside will flee in Jesus’ name.”
I decided to post that part of the song to TikTok because it was something I needed now, and it was a prayer that I needed to pray over myself to feel relief and the presence of God.
I thought maybe there was one person who needed that as well. I didn’t go back to look at the post for hours. When I saw it, the video had reached a lot of people. I knew I needed those words, but I didn’t realize how many other people needed those words.
People were saying they needed these words to pray over a sick loved one, a broken relationship, or whatever circumstances they were facing.
After my label realized the reaction the small part of the song was getting, they suggested I write a song that was a prayer in Jesus’ name. The original version was more of an up-tempo piece.
I wrote out the verses, and it felt like it was a gift from God. It was nothing I could have done on my own, but they were words I needed from God to speak over my own life.
I’m in awe of how God is using this song to reach people. This song stems from my prayer journal. I was praying these words over myself for the last two years, and now I get to pray these words over other people.
The greatest gift I can give is praying for God’s Word. He does bring healing. Circumstances can change. God always shows up.
Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?
Matthew 19:26(NIV): Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
Matthew 17:20(NIV): He replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."
Psalm 77:14(NIV): “You are the God who performs miracles; You display your power among the peoples.”
1 Peter 5:7(NKJV): “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”
Romans 8:28(VOICE): "We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan."
Hebrews 13:8(NKJV): “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
John 15:4-5(VOICE): "Abide in Me, and I will abide in you. A branch cannot bear fruit if it is disconnected from the vine, and neither will you if you are not connected to Me. I am the vine, and you are the branches. If you abide in Me and I in you, you will bear great fruit. Without Me, you will accomplish nothing."
Ephesians 3:20-21(NKJV): "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen."
What is the takeaway message?
1 Peter 5:7 is my life verse. I always remembered this passage when I was praying big prayers. We can’t put a limit on God because He’s so much bigger than we can think or imagine.
He has so many promises, and He is a promise keeper. We can ask Him anything. I truly believe that with my whole heart. The song is about having a bold faith which He asks us to have every day.
I know that God can bring healing and miracles. Not everyone has seen that and it’s hard for people who haven’t seen it to believe. I want to invite people to give everything to the Lord and invite Him into their lives. A cold and closed-off heart isn’t ready to receive Him and surrender to Him. This is a prayer for everyone. I want people to know the power of prayer.
This song is one of the greatest gifts God could ever give me. I want to be a good, faithful servant to Him. I’m grateful to be His vessel. I went into my second surgery, and when I came out of it, the smoke cloud of depression was gone. I encountered the Lord at that moment. When I got my X-rays after surgery, my spine was straighter than when the rods had been in it.
So, when I say that God can do miracles, I mean it, because I’ve seen it. There’s no story that doesn’t matter to God. Every story was written by Him (He’s the greatest author of all time). God has healed me, so I know He can heal someone else. I’m going to share my story and hope it encourages others to go and share theirs.
Lyrics
I speak the name of Jesus over you In your hurting, in your sorrow I will ask my God to move I speak the name cause it’s all that I can do In desperation, I’ll seek heaven And pray this for you
I pray for your healing That circumstances would change I pray that the fear inside would flee In Jesus’ name I pray that a breakthrough would happen today I pray miracles over your life in Jesus’ name In Jesus’ name
I speak the name of all authority Declaring blessings And every promise He is faithful to keep I speak the name no grave could ever hold He is greater, He is stronger He’s the God of possible
I pray for your healing That circumstances would change I pray that the fear inside would flee In Jesus’ name I pray that a breakthrough would happen today I pray miracles over your life in Jesus’ name In Jesus’ name
Come believe it Come receive it Oh, the power of His Spirit is now forever yours Come believe it Come receive it In the mighty name of Jesus, all things are possible
I pray for your healing
That circumstances will change I pray that the fear inside will flee in Jesus’ name I pray that a breakthrough Would happen today I pray miracles over your life In Jesus’ name
I pray for revival For restoration of faith I pray that the dead will come to life In Jesus’ name In Jesus’ name
Closing Thoughts
God wants you to believe in the freedom that you have on the cross of Jesus. You're free from fear, addiction, insecurity, guilt, shame, and perfectionism because He died for you on the cross. His grace takes away everything that holds you down. Abide in His grace, you won’t be the same. Know that being His is enough.
Take in and sing this song’s sincere and emotive lyrics of submission. Sing it as loud as you can. Let it be your anthem. But don’t just sing the words, sing everything in complete submission to Him.
The song's sentiment represents something that the global Church can cling to and proclaim loudly. A great outcome of memorizing the song's words is that you're ultimately singing God's Word.
The timeless passage, Hebrews 13:8, has an application for you living in these uncertain times, dealing with anxiety from COVID-19, wars, financial uncertainty, addictions, and the list goes on. All this is overwhelming. So, it would be no surprise if you questioned whether God loves you after all your mistakes. But Jesus is ever true to His Word.
What He spoke on earth, He affirms in heaven. Under your strength, many mountains you face will seem impossible, but with God everything is possible. The same goes for salvation. You can't earn heaven. It’s only through complete surrender to Jesus, putting all your hope in Him, can you be saved.
“In Jesus Name (God of Possible)” is an incredible song for the Church. It’s a beautiful picture of hope in Christ. Give the Lord everything within you. By blessing God, you’ll be overwhelmed by His love and mercy in return.
Jesus commands us to trust God's Word completely—no matter our circumstances, personal distractions, or concerns. Are you spending too much time thinking about your circumstances and what you can do to improve them, or are you connecting with God's heart, which Matthew 6:34 declares, “Do not worry about tomorrow, let tomorrow worry about itself, living faithfully is a large enough task for today."
Let the song’s message challenge you to think about your doubts and how Jesus calls you to rely on Him and the power of His resurrection. Remember, He has overcome death and fear. That's the reason to celebrate and give Christians everywhere the faith to believe and tell the world, “I pray for revival/For restoration of faith/I pray that the dead will come to life/In Jesus name.”
In the Bible, God tells His believers to "do not fear" or "do not worry" 365 times. This means that when reading His Word, you’ll be reminded often to not get caught up in what’s happing in your own life. But to allow yourself to be satisfied with a fresh filling of Him and His Holy Spirit.
Jesus wants you to have the type of faith that He describes in John 20:29: "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." Being a Christian means that you walk by faith, not by sight. Hebrews 11:1 says, "Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see."
So, walk by faith. Let God guide you in your daily walk by prayer and His infallible Word, the Bible. My devotional prayer this year has been to have more faith.
This song is my heart's cry and anthem to sing daily in praise to the Lord, regardless of my circumstances, doubts or worry, singing words to Him like: “I pray for your healing/That circumstances would change/I pray that the fear inside would flee/In Jesus name/I pray that a breakthrough would happen today/I pray miracles over your life in Jesus name.” Amen to that.
