Brooke Robertson recently released her debut album, Have My Heart. My daughters are 18, 14, and 11 years old, and this album is perfect for them. It has been one of my missions in sharing the biblical truth behind songs by Christians to help women who are bombarded with negative messages about their identity and purpose to know that their true identity and purpose is found in God.

The title track is all about committing our hearts to God, with Brooke sweetly singing, "You have my heart, and You have the whole thing." I had the chance to speak with Brooke about "Have My Heart."

Please tell me the personal story behind this song.

About a year ago, I wasn't thinking about doing music full time. I was a college student, and I was trying to figure out what God wanted me to do. I was applying to different graduate schools. I was feeling broken and in a place of brokenness. Anything that seemed like a risk really did not make sense to me at the time. No matter how many times I took the entry test, I couldn't pass it. I applied to schools, and they denied me.

At that time Jeremy Holderfield, who is my producer, reached out to me from seeing some videos of me singing cover songs. He saw something in me. At that point, I was confused. I didn't know what God wanted me to do. I didn't want to accept the fact that maybe my plan for school was not going to happen. It took me feeling broken and confused to finally let it all go and give everything to God. I prayed, "I want what You want, God." I felt at such peace that I can't really explain.

I was asked to come up to Nashville to write songs, which was a huge step of faith for me. I'm a small town girl from Louisiana. I shared my story and what I was going through, and I wanted to write a song about it to share with other people to give them hope. Whatever struggle you are going through, it's not easy, but when you give over everything to God, He unveils His plans for you. That's what the song is about.

Which Bible verses connect to the message of the song?

Hebrews 11:1 (NLT): "Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see."

Psalm 112:7 (NLT): "They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them."

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV): "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."

Acts 13:22 (NKJV): "And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.'"

Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV): "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV): "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV): "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Romans 8:28 (VOICE): "We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan."

1 John 4:18 (NKJV): "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love."

What is the takeaway message?

I hope whenever people hear this song, they will be encouraged by the words, and whenever they are facing struggles that they give them over to God and trust Him. It's my desire that people will find hope and draw closer to Jesus when they hear these songs. I want to encourage others to rely on God's plans and not their own plans. The journey of discovering God's purpose for your life is something I think we can all relate to, and I believe with my whole heart that true joy is found when you give everything over to Him.

Proverbs 3:5-6 was such a big reminder for me in writing this song. I wasn't trusting in God, but I was trusting in what I thought I needed to do. I shouldn't have been doing that. I should have been trusting in God's plans. His plans are so much bigger for me than what I had planned. He showed me that. Surrender everything over to God. When we give God our entire hearts, He will help us. Lean on Him and trust in Him.

Wide awake at midnight
I can't sleep, I gotta figure out
Tryna make the most of right now
But I'm over my head, so I trust You instead

Your arms are holding me tight, they won't let go
My heartbeat is a token of Your love for me
I'll never sing of Your love perfectly
You have my heart and You have the whole thing

Caught up in emotions
I can't think, I'm losing my mind
Over answers, I could never find
So I'll give it to You, 'cause You know what to do

Your arms are holding me tight, they won't let go
My heartbeat is a token of Your love for me
I'll never sing of Your love perfectly
You have my heart and You have the whole thing

You are my hope, You are my peace
You are my strength when I am weak
You stay the same, forever unchanged
I am captured by Your love

Your arms are holding me tight, they won't let go
My heartbeat is a token of Your love for me
I'll never sing of Your love perfectly
You have my heart and You have the whole thing...
Your arms are holding me tight, they won't let go
My heartbeat is a token of Your love for me
I'll never sing of Your love perfectly
You have my heart and You have the whole thing

Being a Christian father of three young daughters, these songs all reflect the yearning for Jesus to make us whole that I pray for my daughters to feel in their hearts as well. I love how this song celebrates God's sovereignty, professing that God is the ultimate ruler over our lives. I love how this song expresses the truth of our earthly challenges. This song has really been resonating with me as I realize that Jesus commands us to trust God completely, no matter our circumstances or personal distractions or concerns. The song is about faith and letting God's plans be revealed in your life.

God tells us in the Bible that we are all sinners, and we've all fallen short. We need to serve God because of who He is, not what He does for us. God doesn't promise to spare us from pain, but we need to trust Him. You have to trust Him and wait on Him, wait for Him to orchestrate the plans for your life. This is a wonderful song of encouragement to live as a light and know that in Christ, we can do anything. God will never fail us or forsake us until the work of the Lord is finished. God has great plans for all of His children, according to Jeremiah 29:11.

We have the very love of God in our hearts. We have faith to see the impossible come to pass, and we have a God that's waiting to back us up in this mission. Ask God to open your eyes today. Ask Him to reveal His footsteps, so you can follow them. They will lead you to some amazing places. Spend time with God, and let Him redeem and restore you. Although many of us may know Proverbs 3:5-6, Solomon wrote that to us to remind us today about the importance of trusting in God with all our hearts.

Jeremiah 29:13 says, "You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart." God tells us in the Bible that with faith, we can do anything in Christ. I'm completely convicted by the strong lyrics, and find immense comfort in this song filled with biblical truth. If you are looking for a firm foundation in your life, make these lyrics your personal prayer: "My heartbeat is a token of Your love for me, I'll never sing of Your love perfectly, You have my heart and You have the whole thing." Amen to that!
