That's What People Do
That's What People Do was TFK's first full-length release. It had a limited release in 1997, and it was just recently re-released via the band's website. Even though this album pre-dates Set It Off, don't be fooled. This album is a masterpiece. Arguably TFK's best record to date, it features much of the raw rapcore power showcased on later albums, but incorporates a broader range of hooks and rhythms that give this album an infectious indie feel.
Many of the songs on That's What People Do were re-recorded for Set It Off, but in nearly all cases, the original versions are better. The album starts off strong with a rougher and stronger version of "Rhime Animal" than the version that was featured on Set It Off. The record presents a good mix of hard and soft tracks, touching on slow ballads like "Moment of the Day," "Lift It," and "Sweet Unknown." The album peaks with the song "Sunshyne." Featuring blazing vocals and a driving guitar track, this song blows the listener away. Another highlight of this album is the presence of Christian Harvey as TFK's drummer. That's What People Do is the only recording featuring Christian, and his intricate and inventive percussion tracks still surprise me with every listen.
The only downside to That's What People Do is that almost half the tracks were re-recorded on Set It Off, and (with the exception of "Sunshyne") those songs that weren't re-recorded were re-released on the remastered version of Set It Off. The bottom line is this: Even though most of these songs are available on other TFK releases, these versions are just plain better. That's What People Do features all the rock, rapcore, and melodic elements that have defined TFK, but brings to the forefront one element that outdoes other TFK releases: ...fun. Even though Set It Off and Phenomenon were wonderful albums, youthful joy and excitement literally drips from this album, and the result is nothing short of infectious.

1That's What People Do
That's What People Do is a decent album by a great band. I do like the album somewhat but they just have better music today. TFK is a better band today than they were at this time, period.
