Musically, this record starts off great. “The Spy Hunter” is one of the most popular songs to be released by P86, with a sick phaser intro and some hardcore chords. However, after that it goes downhill fast. One Achilles heel of Project 86 music is their consistency. It’s not always a bad thing, especially after all their lineup changes, but too much of a good thing, isn’t such a good thing. It’s not always a bad thing, especially after all their lineup changes, but too much of a good thing, isn’t such a good thing. Some songs that break up the monotony on this album include “A Shadow On Me,” “Say Goodnight to the Bad Guy,” “The Great Golden Gate Disaster,” “Breakneck Speed,” “A Fruitless End Ever,” and the ambient “A Text Message to the So-Called Emperor.”
This album is very clean overall. The only objection I have is a suggestive line in “Sioux Lane Spirits” when he says “Into another’s arms / Into another’s bed.”
There are a lot of solid lyrics as well. “The Spy Hunter” states “I do not need anymore truthless heroes” and then ends with “I need truth,” a great message for today’s postmodern world. “Safe Haven” calls to mind Jesus’ words in John 15:18. “Breakdown in 3/4” reminds us that we won’t last forever, “Is it comforting to know we're so temporary?” while the first lyrics of “The Great Golden Gate Disaster” remind us of our sin nature: “Outside you there's a remedy / Inside you is an enemy.” The first verse of “Solace” is a beautiful picture of rest and contentedness.
If you ask P86 fans, a lot of them will tell you that Songs to Burn Your Bridges By is their favorite record overall. While I haven’t listened to them extensively, Project 86 does have a good sound, when it’s not overdone that is. If you listen to this album, there seems to be some repetition, but they do break it up with a lot of good songs, so I have to hand it to them for that. If you can handle the scratchy lyrics, then it’s probably a good entry-level collection to listen to if you’re interested in this style.

I liked this album some of the time. not their best, but decent. It's worth listening to. They're not exactly my style, but I switch a lot, and they work to mix things up a bit.

my fav songs on this cd: the spy hunter, oblivion breakdown in 3/4, the great golden gate disaster, solace... but there all pretty good..
if you dont have this cd but like project 86, you should definately buy it, its a must have..

Great album, and in my opinion their best. There's not a bad song on the disc, just great hard rockn' song after hard rockn' song.

Project 86’s Songs to Burn your Bridges by, should have been renamed “song to explode your stereo, as the CD is a repetitive hard rock album which is a pretty good hard rock CD. Most of the songs annoy the souls of ordinary folks, but those who love the hard to understand rock tunes will enjoy this CD especially. After listening to Songs to Burn Bridges by for twenty times you get to understand a few words and pick out a few songs that you like above the rest, which will probably include “spy hunterâ€, the opening track. The words are hard enough to understand, without trying to decipher the messages, which are close to impossible. Don’t expect to get much out of this album expect some good hard rock tunes and a injured ear, but Project 86’s Songs to your Burn Bridges by, is a better hard rock album than others.

i love p86! my favorite songs on this album are oblivion and the spy hunter (anyone seen the music video for that? it's awesomeness) with hard music and "catchy" lyrics i just love it!!!

I think P86 is an amazing band... This CD is defiantely a favorite of mine. Probably the most lyrical... Definately catchy... I absolutely love their sound in this album. Favorite song... Spyhunter Or 3 Card

I love all of Project 86's albums but i believe this one is my favorite. I can't really describe it that well so go and buy it and listen to it for yourself. My Favorite songs are probably... awe heck, i love them all, i can't really pick one favorite, which is probably why this CD is my favorite, lol
But, ya, i highly recomend this CD. So you should stop reading this and go and buy it!!
