Disconnected Review

What You Need To Know:
After the disbanding of the Christian metalcore band For Today, brothers Ryan and Brandon Leitru
wanted to continue making music. They created a new band, a supergroup, with members from A Bullet For Pretty Boy, Take It Back, and Silent Planet. The new band, Nothing Left, signed to Facedown Records for their debut EP, Destroy and Rebuild. They now have a full-length album, Disconnected, and it is heavier than the last.

What it Sounds Like:
Disconnected has an aggressive hardcore sound with high energy in every song. Every song is brutal musically and vocally, and it reminds me of the early 2000's bands from Facedown Records and Solid State Records. Having an "early" sound is refreshing in the current metal scene, as a lot of metal bands are adding melodic elements and experimental elements. Nothing Left goes uncompromisingly heavy and raw.

Spiritual Highlights:
As I listened and read the album's lyrics, I was left wanting more growth, both in thematic material and diversity. It seemed that the majority of the lyrics revolved around one theme: corruption. This is not a bad theme to focus on, but the problem I personally had with it, was that I did not hear much hope or even Biblical contrasts with corruption. However, Nothing Left does a great job of sending a strong, clear message in their songs. You do not finish listening to a song wondering what they were singing about. They have a platform to speak hope and truth to their listeners, and I hope to see continued growth in that direction.

Best Song on the Record:
The most exemplary song of Disconnected as a whole is "Dust to Dust." Evidently passionate lyrics paired with satisfying heavy metal combine in this song to show you the best of Nothing Left. The chorus screams, "Reap what you've sown. So beg, beg for forgiveness," a truth that everyone must face in this life in order to grow.

For Fans Of:
Sleeping Giant, Comrades, War of Ages

Final Word:
Disconnected sends a bold and clear message that corrupt people will be confronted by righteous people. This album is, without a doubt, one the heaviest albums musically to release this year. Nothing Left masterfully pumps out the riffs, breakdowns, grooves, and screams into a cohesive and powerful album. I do wish the lyrical content offered more hope, if even just for some more variety. Despite the lyrical shortcomings, Disconnected still has plenty to offer any hardcore fan.
