The Richest Man | Posted July 02, 2010
Yes, he took a vow of poverty. Yes, celibacy, too.
He did without many of the things that we look at as making life enjoyable. He forsook these earthly things, and laid up treasure in Heaven. As Jim Elliot said, "He is no fool who gives up that which he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose." The depth of longing for Christ, love of Christ, gratitude to Christ, empathy for his brother and sister contained in the intricate simplicity of his lyrics is the legacy this Rich man left us.
