Here's what's happening TODAY in Christian music...
1. Longtime Family Force 5 fans likely remember their famed Really Real Show, their part reality, part absurdity vlog series. Although they stopped making the videos several years ago, the band says they have a replacement in the works: The 30 Second Variety Hour. Stay tuned to find out more!
2. Tauren Wells from Royal Tailor has been busy with his worship school Prisma, but not too busy to sneak in some songwriting on the side. The soulful singer was caught songwriting with American Idol alum Kris Allen this week.
3. JJ Heller has shared full details on her new album Sound Of A Living Heart, which is now available for preorder on iTunes. The 11 new songs range from a gospel inspired tune to a singer songwriter style story featuring former Sanctus Real frontman Matt Hammitt.
4. 7eventh Time Down is another band sharing details of new music to come, with their third album God Is On the Move set to release on August 21. For this album the group cowrote with veteran writers like Ryan Stevenson, Ian Eskelin and Jason Ingram.
5. While navigating a busy schedule on the Outcry Tour, David Crowder and his band took some time to shoot a music video this week. Of course, his famous stuffed arctic fox Kenny Rodgers was present, although only time will tell if he made it into the actual video.
6. In preparation for his new release That Was Then This Is Now, Josh Wilson had 3,000 copies of the album shipped to his house. He ran into a problem however when the FedEx truck to carry them all was so big it couldn't fit into his neighborhood culdesac! Fortunately, the truck was willing to meet Josh and deliver in a CVS parking lot instead.
7. Songwriters are known for writing from wherever they happen to be, which sometimes creates problems. Bryce Avary, A.K.A. The Rocket Summer, wrote a song while on a plane. When he landed, he immediately had to hunt to find a piano somewhere in the Las Vegas airport to finish the song on his layover. The creative struggle is definitely real.
8. for KING & COUNTRY continues to make an impact in new and surprising ways. Most recently, the Smallbone brothers met a mini fan named Hope. Her parents named her after the song "Hope Is What We Crave" from the group's debut album.
