Dan wrote a special devotional explaining the heart behind today's featured song, "Wide Open."
In 2009, my life was going pretty good. I had a solid job as a carpenter, I was just married to an amazing girl, and I could see the next 10 years of my life unfolding as a secure thing. Without warning, the economy changed and almost overnight I lost all my work. Everything that made me feel secure was suddenly gone. "Surely this wasn't God's plan," I thought. How would I pay the bills? I started to see that my life had been set up where I was completely in control. Like I was living on a small island where everything was predictable and safe, but God was calling me out onto the water where He would lead.
I started to remember the thing that really burned in my heart: Music. The thing I kept pushing aside because it was too risky, too big for me to face. I felt like it was time to step out and pursue what I felt God calling me to do. I had no guarantee of what was to come, but I knew I had to be wide open and fully committed. I had no idea the adventure God was about to take me on. The next 5 years of my life were the most exciting and fulfilling. For the first time in my life I felt fully alive.
When we step out and trust, we allow God to be God and do the impossible. From our perspective it can look like the end, but from God's perspective it's just the beginning. -Dan Bremnes
