In their recently released rockumentary Fading West, the men of Switchfoot are seen surfing some major waves all over the world in some epic locations, but the band's love of the surf, it seems, has directly impacted its hometown album release show.
The band postponed the "Fading West" release concert in San Diego, scheduled for today (Jan. 15), after Jon Foreman sustained a wound to his face while surfing Monday, Jan. 13.
"We're so excited to celebrate the release of Fading West with you tomorrow at the Casbah, but we have to postpone the live show..." the band wrote in a statement to fans on its Facebook page. "Jon still needs some recovery time after his surfing injury, but the rest of us will be hanging out, handing out copies of the new CD and celebrating the release... We have a lot to be thankful and excited for and can't wait to see all of you there!"
Ticketholders of the album release show may use their tickets to access both the Jan. 15 meet-and-greet as well as the Feb. 3 rescheduled show.
"You travel all around the world making a movie and record built around surfing, and really push yourself to ride some really challenging waves," Foreman said in a statement. "So it's more than a bit ironic to get injured in your own backyard. Thankful that I'm okay—it could have been much worse."
"Fading West," Switchfoot's ninth studio LP, was released today (Jan. 14) through Atlantic, hitting No. 1 on iTunes' album chart. "Vice Verses," the band's previous album, hit No. 8 on the Billboard 200 in 2011.
