For over two decades, the WOW series has dominated the sales charts representing the most successful collections of Christian music ever issued. After selling millions of copies throughout the years, the series issued its last edition in 2019, going dark for the first time last year in light of streaming taking over record and download sales.
"Compilations are a thing of the past," says founding creator Grant Cunningham. "But we're so excited to be going back to the past, so to speak, to create the future of this series."
This October, WOW Boomers will be launching, featuring 36 of yesterday's top Christian artists and hits. The Deluxe Edition will include 36 songs on two-discs with 'Side A' featuring seasoned artists like Bill Gaither, Wayne Watson and Petra and 'Side B' featuring artists that are still active like Amy Grant, Carman, and Micheal W. Smith.
"The neighbor kids keep yelling 'Hey, Boomer!," shares featured artist, Steven Curtis Chapman. "I'm not sure it's a phrase of endearment so I'm a bit confused about what the WOW team is thinking here, but nevertheless, I'm blessed to be included on another collection of hits!."
"My manager told me not to be offended," says featured artist Michael W. Smith. "My manager also told me to quit eating dinner at 4 PM, so I'm not sure we're communicating well right now."
"I mean, they know we're all still making music, topping charts and selling out venues night after night, right?" asked TobyMac backstage, surrounded by a lingering scent of IcyHot. "But, I guess my knees and back are a bit sorer these days."
WOW Boomers will be available on CD, cassette, and 8-track and will come with a free Sudoku puzzle book with purchase. Due to a recent surge in popularity with younger listeners, the vinyl edition has been canceled.
