Today Michael W. Smith had the special honor of performing his iconic song "Friends" at the funeral of George H. W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States.
"Michael is honored to have been asked to perform a song at President George H. W. Bush's memorial service on Wednesday, December 5th in Washington D.C. Michael has been a long-time friend of the Bush Family with a particularly strong connection to our 41st President whom he met in the 1980's," his team posted yesterday. Michael also took to social media yesterday to share a video of the rehearsal.
"If you are able, we do encourage you to watch the memorial service on one of the major news networks, as it will be a celebration of a man who devoted his entire life to serving others. The last words that President Bush said to Michael were 'Friends are Friends Forever.' A fitting statement for all of us. We are all grateful for the life of George Herbert Walker Bush - we are blessed to have known him - we are blessed to be inspired by him - we are blessed to know that we will see him again."
