It's been sung by the likes of Kari Jobe, Newsboys, Jesus Culture, and Shane & Shane, among others, but popular worship anthem "Revelation Song" as performed by Phillips, Craig and Dean has been certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America, it was announced today.
The song, written by worship artist/songwriter Jennie Lee Riddle, is a favorite among churches internationally, with its detailed imagery of Jesus on the throne.
"My mind is officially blown and my heart has burst," Riddle posted on Facebook today. "Thank you, guys... it is such a privilege to be among the many who love to write songs for the Church. Jesus will be praised forever, and there could never be enough songs to praise Him with!"
In a changing music landscape, many factors come into play when designating Gold status to a single, including downloads, YouTube plays and other streaming services. To achieve Gold, "Revelation Song" surpassed the 500,000 threshold.
Phillips, Craig and Dean recorded their version of the song for their 2009 album,
Fearless, which is the trio's only album to hit the top of the U.S. Christian charts.
"It's not just a lyric, it's not just the music, it's a combination of all of that together that takes you on a journey," said Dan Dean of Phillips, Craig and Dean, in a previous interview. "It lifts your spirit. I have seen it happen many times in our church as we do the song in worship. Now we just hope we can see that happen on a larger scale."
In a 2012 interview with NRT, Riddle had this to say about the song:
"'Revelation Song' has taken on a life of its own, and it has been an intense joy to watch the Father grow it up, and to hear the voice of the Bride sing to Jesus; her voice is so lovely. I often get asked with version is my favorite. Honestly, the voice of the Bride is my favorite of all."
