Switchfoot's tenth annual Bro-am event is scheduled for July 11-12 in Encinitas, CA.
The free surfing and music event, sponsored by
Hurley, is designed as an effort to bring the community together and raise funds and awareness for local homeless and at-risk youth. This year the band has also decided to partner with the SIMA's (Surf Industry Manufacturers Association)
humanitarian fund.
To further its goals of leaving the world better than they found it, the event will use renewable energy sources to power the event, leaning on solar power rather than traditional generators. Attendees are also encouraged to bring refillable water bottles.
The event will feature performance from Switchfoot, The Future's League, Run River North and Cody Lovaas, according to
ArdistDirect.com. Guests can also expect a chance to view
Fading West, the rockumentary/surf film Switchfoot released December 2013.
Much of the fundraising occurs at an auction the evening before the main event (tickets for this year's auction can be purchased
here). Over the past decade, the yearly events have raised over $900,000 for charities local to the band's home in San Diego, CA.
"The Switchfoot Bro-Am is my favorite day of the year," says Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman on the event's official page. "It's an entire community of surfing and rock and roll joining together for a surf contest and concert on the beach, all to benefit homeless and at risk youth — what could be better?"
On June 21, Foreman also tweeted a picture of a board crafted for the event:
