Alternative rock group Switchfoot were joined on stage by 22-time Olympic medalist Michael Phelps while performing at the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 17. While the band performed their 2004 smash hit single "Dare You to Move," Phelps joined the ensemble on stage playing tambourine.
The incident was reported by Jon Foreman (lead vocals) and Tim Foreman (bass) on twitter later that weekend:
@jonforeman: Wow! just played "dare you to move" with @Micheal_Phelps on tambourine - no joke! What a day #Preakness2014
A fan posted their video of the surprise guest feature on YouTube here.
Switchfoot’s performance at the Preakness Stakes' Infieldfest was in support of headline act Lorde. The Preakness is the second of the legendary Triple Crown horse races, traditionally occurring in Baltimore, Maryland.
Michael Phelps holds the most medals of any Olympian, earning eighteen gold medals, two silver and two bronze and in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 summer Olympics.
