Jenny Simmons, former lead singer of Addison Road, is adding a new accolade to her name: author.
This week, the singer/songwriter, who released her debut solo album last year, launched a
Kickstarter campaign inviting fans to join her on this new journey. The book, titled
The Road to Becoming, holds a special place in Jenny's heart. "After writing an album of songs about the season of life I call
The Becoming," Jenny explains, "I found myself on stage night after night sharing stories about the journey that led me from dashed dreams, to deserts, to deep, meaningful new life. People in all stages of life were finding hope in these stories and I knew I needed to be faithful to making them more widely available."
Jenny describes the book as "a spiritual memoir and laugh-out-loud guide through seasons of burying, change, waiting and finding new life as Christ leads us out of our deserts. This book is for anyone who needs to be reminded that our God is good at deserts and our roads to becoming are holy seasons that lead to new life."
To help announce the new project and Kickstarter campaign, Jenny got a few friends to help break the news. The video features Natalie Grant, Francesca Battistelli, Mandisa and Kerri Roberts talking about the announcement. Annie Downs also add some humor saying, “It's not, like, a coloring book. It doesn’t even rhyme. It’s like, a real book, with words!”
Various benefits to donators include signed copies of the new book and solo album, handwritten and mounted lyrics. Larger donators can book Jennie for an online concert, a day of writing with Jennie in Nashville or an intimate acoustic concert in the comfort of your living room. The funding campaign ends on May 15, 2014.
