Marc Martel, former co-vocalist of Canadian Christian contemporary pop/rock band Downhere, is preparing to release a new Christmas EP. Entitled
The Silent Night EP, the EP will feature Martel's signature vocals set to several classic Christmas carols.
Martel has already been dropping a few songs as singles these past few Christmases, in the form of "O Holy Night" and "O Come O Come Emmanuel." Both of those will be featured on the EP alongside new arrangements of "In the Bleak Midwinter," "What Child is This" and "Silent Night." Martel has recorded several of these carols previously as part of Downhere, but these new recordings will see him tackling the yuletide staples as a solo artist. The EP will also feature a new version of Downhere's signature Christmas hit penned by Martel, "How Many Kings." The EP releases on November 18 and is now available for pre-order at

Martel has kept himself busy since retiring Downhere. Still enjoying success courtesy of his uncanny vocal resemblance to the late Freddie Mercury, Martel tours as the frontman of the official Queen tribute band, Queen Extravaganza. He's also released a healthy amount of solo material, including a series of live acoustic covers and a live EP. A covers EP is still reportedly in the works. And recently, Downhere made a brief reunion as part of Centricity Records' 10th anniversary celebration. You can keep up with his efforts at
