A Patrick Bowers Thriller
by Adriana Lima | Genre: Fiction

FBI Special Agent Patrick Bowers’s cutting-edge skills are about to be pushed to the limit when a young woman is found brutally murdered in Washington DC. Her killers continue a spree of perfect crimes in the Northeast, but with nothing to link them to each other, Agent Bowers faces his most difficult case yet—even as his personal life begins to crumble around him.

The Bishop is a gripping, adrenaline-laced story for readers who are tired of timid thrillers. Strap on your seat belt and get ready for a wild ride.

Having not previously read any of Steven James' books, I was a bit hesitant to pick up his latest work - mainly because I don't like spending $11.99 only to find out the novel is mediocre. However, Steven James is no mediocre author.
This book is the fourth in a series about FBI Agent Patrick Bowers, but it doesn't seem necessary to read them in order, although James occasionally references Bowers' previous adventures.
The plot is a thrilling one - it's a classic serial killer hunt-down, complete with hair-raising action and insightful dialogue. Not only is he hunting down a killer, but he is also faced with losing custody of his step-daughter to her long lost father. The title, at first, seemed irrelevant to me, but I found out later in the book that Bowers and his daughter, Tessa, love to play chess, and Steven James masterfully incorporates that into his story as well.
Many 500 page books tend to be drawn out, boring stories with a few exciting spots in between. The Bishop, however, is rarely dry and consistently keeps your attention - not to mention it's nearly impossible to put down. I enjoyed the book immensely, and found a new author that quickly shot to near the top of my list of favorites. Steven James' next book, The Queen, will be out in Summer of 2011.
