Have you ever listened to a song and it immediately reminded you of a passage of Scripture? That's what happened to me when I heard "Somebody Like Me." Caleb & John sing about how the love of Jesus can change anybody and make them new. Ephesians 1-2 is like a mini summary of the gospel message--probably one of my favorites in all of the Bible. In this chapter, we learn that even before God made the world He had a plan to save us from our sins, make us holy and blameless in His sight, and draw us close to Himself as His sons and daughters through the work of Jesus on the cross. He did all this because of His kindness, mercy, and love.
As you listen to these lyrics those same truths we read in Scripture will wash over you: "I'm a child of the loving Father; I'm a part of the family." "He can set you free." "He can wash you clean." So as you listen to "Somebody Like Me," (and go read Ephesians 1-2 too) let the words remind of how God has changed your life through the work of His Son Jesus. And if you don't know Jesus personally yet, let these words be an invitation to you that would know what He can do for you if you give Him your life.
Ephesians 1:4-5 (NLT): "Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure."
Lyrics
I'm the child of a loving Father
I'm a part of the family
His mercy is sweet like summer
And He's always welcoming
So if you feel like you're going under
Come and fall on amazing grace
He's the God who can walk on water
And His love can change
Somebody like me
Somebody like you
You come as you are
And you leave brand new
If you're feeling broken
Running out of hope then
Just look how His love set free
Somebody like me
Somebody like me
Should be buried under all my mistakes
Six feet under what I've done
But now I'm covered by the weight of His grace
Hallelujah for the blood that saves
